Wheelchair seating | Wheelchair seat cushions – Physical and mechanical characteristics of seat cushions and devices intended to manage tissue integrity

Many users of wheelchairs have an increased risk of pressure sores. A wheelchair seat cushion helps here to protect the integrity of the skin and thus serves as a decubitus prophylaxis.

ISO 16840-2 defines test methods and information requirements for comparing the physical and mechanical properties of different seat cushions. For example, impact damping and friction behaviour, biocompatibility and recovery characteristics play an important role in quality.
